Rapid Play Ladder

The Ladder is now open to entrants.

Rules

  1. A player can challenge anyone up to four places above.
  2. Entrants will initially be place on the ladder in grade order with the highest at the bottom.
  3. A player beating a higher ranked player takes their 'rung' on the ladder, the beaten player and all those in between move down one 'rung'.
  4. If the higher ranked player wins, or the game is a draw, there is no change in the position.
  5. Results will be submitted for rapid play grading.
  6. Put results on the results sheet as usual; make sure you specify 'ladder' competition or the results may be included in your long play grading!
  7. Rearrange ladder positions according to your results.
  8. Players not on the ladder can join at the bottom (contact Kevin for the name tag).
  9. Ladder to be closed at the end of the September to encourage participation in the long play competitions.
  10. All other competition games have priority over ladder matches.

Match Rules

  1. It is suggested that time/colour are agreed with the match is arranged to avoid the higher ranked player having an extra advantage.
  2. Games to be played by the clock to an agreed time in the rapid play range i.e. 15-59 minutes total per player.
  3. If no agreement can be reached on controls, the player receiving the challenge (that is, the higher ranked on the ladder) decides.
  4. Decide colour by tossing a coin or 'choosing a pawn'.
  5. Under FIDE rules there is no requirement to record rapid play game moves, though you are recommended to do so whilst time allows.

Ladder Results Not Online

Since the players on the ladder change places frequently, it is not possible to report the current position here, i.e. there are no updates here on the website.

History

The ladder itself was generously donated by Andrew Caswill in 2009, having commission its construction.
